PayPal is available in more than 200 countries around the world, including all countries of the 🇪🇺 European Union and 🇨🇭 Switzerland.

Restrictions on subscriptions and tokenizations

Please note that recurring payments (subscriptions) and tokenizations with PayPal are only possible if the PayPal account is registered in one of the following countries:

Fees

When integrating PayPal as an external payment provider in zahls.ch, an additional transaction fee from zahls.ch applies on top of PayPal’s fees. This fee ranges between 0.25% and 1.00%, depending on the selected plan.

Setup

This article explains how to integrate PayPal as an external payment provider in zahls.ch to receive payments.

Configuration of PayPal

  • Visit the PayPal website.
  • Click on "Sign Up" at the top right.
  • Select whether it is a personal or business account and click on "Get Started".
  • Enter your personal information, choose a secure password, and click on "Agree and Create Account".

Configuration of zahls.ch

  • Navigate to "Payment Providers" in your zahls.ch account.

  • Depending on whether PayPal has been used before or not, click either the green "Setup" button or the white "Configure" button next to PayPal.

  • If you do not have a PayPal account yet, you can create one now by clicking on "Yes". If you already have an account, click on "No, not now".

The PayPal configuration screen will open, where you can make the following settings:

  1. Define whether you want to receive live payments through PayPal or set PayPal to test mode.
  2. Enable the currencies in which you want to receive payments via PayPal.
  3. Click on "Connect PayPal account" next to Productive account settings if you want to use PayPal in live mode.
  4. Click on "Connect PayPal account" next to Sandbox account settings if you want to use PayPal in test mode.
  • Confirm that you are a human by completing the PayPal security check.

  • Enter the email address of your PayPal account and your country, then click "Next".

  • Log in with your password.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your account.

  • Click the blue button to return to zahls.ch.

  • Your PayPal account is now connected to zahls.ch.

  • Complete the configuration by clicking on "Save" in the bottom right corner.

Payouts

As PayPal is an external payment provider, payouts are not processed through zahls.ch. Transactions received via PayPal are paid out to you directly by PayPal.

Payment Process with PayPal

From the customer's perspective, payments with PayPal follow the process below.

  1. The customer selects PayPal as the payment method.

  2. The customer is redirected to PayPal.

  3. The customer logs in to PayPal using their credentials.

  4. The customer completes the payment with PayPal by clicking the blue button.

  5. After the successful payment, the customer is redirected back to zahls.ch.
